Discover
our region
A little farther away in Ardèche:
Discover
the Ardèche "sucs" and others of the youngest volcanoes of Ardèche,
the best known being the Mont Gerbier-des-Joncs (origine of the
Loire River). Climb the Mont Mézenc, the highest of the
Cévenne mountain range with an altitude of 1753 meters.
On
the Ardèche plateau, you will find the lakes of Issarlès (in
the crater of a volcano) and Saint-Martial to be true havens of
peace.
Many
rivers and springs are to be discovered throughout the territory;
the Ray-Pic cascade on the Bourges River near the village of Pereyres
is exceptional.
Farther
south in the department, historic and prehistoric sites abound:
many breathtaking grottos and avens have formed near the
famous Ardèche Canyons. Not to be missed! Also worth a visit,
the Pont-d'Arc at the beginning of the canyon, and the
Païolive Woods that cover the area with vegetation already
perfumed with the smells of Provence.
To
the north, the Peaugres safari has roaming wild animals; the
Mastrou, a little tourist train, travels from Tournon to Lamastre
at 20 km/h, in the pretty valley of the Doux. A wonderful outing!
In
our region called "Boutières", the ruins of the Rochebonne
Castle near Saint-Martin-de-Valamas or the "Champ de Mars"
(a summit at 1343 meters) are great pretexts for a family hike.
Visit
the vineyards and taste the wine of Ardèche, from southern
Ardèche and from the slopes of the Rhône valley; enjoy a cooking
style that combines north and south, employing butter or olive
oil.
